Ranchi: BJP leader Yashwant Sinha has said that his phone was tapped by union minister P Chidambaram.
Mr Sinha said he challenges Mr Chidambaram to prove him wrong. "Today, with complete responsibility, I want to say that when I raised the issue of Aircel-Maxis, Chidambaram ordered to tap my phone as he was then Home Minister," Mr Sinha said.
The Home Ministry, which is now headed by Sushil Kumar Shinde, has not commented so far on the accusation. Nor has Mr Chidambram.
Mr Sinha, like other senior leaders of the BJP, has alleged that in 2006, Mr Chidambaram, as Finance Minister, deliberately delayed permission for the sale of the telecom Aircel to a company named Maxis from Malaysia. During this time, the BJP says, Mr Chidambaram's son was able to invest in Aircel and benefit from Maxis' acquisition of the company.
In Parliament in May, Mr Chidambaram dramatically declared "It would be much simpler if somebody took a dagger and plunged it into my heart, rather than questioning my integrity."
Mr Chidambaram has said that neither he nor any members of his family have owned "any share in any telecom company at any time, indirectly or directly."
