Govt to face Oppn attack on CAG reports, flight of NE people in Parliament

With CAG reports on three critical sectors expected to be tabled in Parliament and the opposition JD (U) is on Friday likely to raise the issue of northeast people fleeing cities like Bangalore, Pune and Hyderabad, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has indicated that the government will effectively counter any Opposition attack on these issues.

"We will do as well as we can," Singh said when asked how the government planned to counter the onslaught of the Opposition after the CAG reports on coal blocs allocation and Delhi International Airport are tabled in Parliament.
The reports were slated to be tabled on Thursday but since both Houses of Parliament were adjourned as mark of respect for late Union minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, these are now expected to be laid on Friday.

"Everybody knows," Singh said when referred to reports that the CAG reports contain indictment of the government.

Sources said the government has worked out a strategy to counter the Opposition attack and the ministers concerned would make statements outside Parliament if they are not allowed to speak inside.

JD-U for discussion on NE people
The opposition JD-U will press for a discussion in the Lok Sabha on Friday as the flight of the panic-struck Northeastern people from Bangalore, over rumours of attacks targeting the community in the BJP-ruled state, continued for the second consecutive day on Thursday.

"It is the responsibility of the Central and state governments to identify such rumour mongers and teach them a lesson....We will be giving a notice to the Speaker on Friday to discuss the issue," JD-U president Sharad Yadav said on Thursday.

Describing the North East as the "crown" of India, Yadav said all efforts should be taken to ensure that the peace loving people of the region are not harassed and tough action should be taken against those spreading the rumours.
